When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically as soon as the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that deals with the e-mails for that specific domain name. The website and the email hosting are often thought to be one thing, when they are actually two different services. Having separate records for them will permit you to have them with different providers if you'd like. As an example, some new provider can have outstanding uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by employing an A record to point the Internet domain to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you could get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you want to open a website or send an e-mail - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain name will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed website or your e-mail will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account through our company and you would like to point either your site or your emails to a different company, it's going to take you literally just 2 clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it's not going to take more than a few clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you modify or set up isn't going to take more than several hours and if needed, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that shows how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, included with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting, will enable you to view the A and MX records for each of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or set up new ones. Handling these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and in case you experience any difficulties, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you full control of all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
