All generic domain name extensions and several country-code ones support a security lock option whose purpose is to hinder unapproved transfers of existing domain names. Many registry operators that supervise country-code top-level domain names that do not support this feature are in the process of introducing it for the sake of security and for the convenience of the domain registrants. A domain name can be transferred only if it is unlocked and only a registrant who has been granted access to the account with the current domain name registrar can achieve that. New domains are registered with the lock feature enabled on purpose, so as to prevent any unsanctioned transfer attempts. The lock option is among the safety measures for controlling the transfer of existing domain names between registrars that have been introduced over the years.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain name registered through us is very easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our Linux shared hosting, and will take literally two mouse clicks. All your domains will be listed in alphabetical order in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you’ll notice a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you’ll see the domain name’s current status. Click once again and you’ll alter its status. The update will take effect instantly without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can go ahead with the transfer process right away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Locking or unlocking any domain name registered through us is amazingly easy and can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel – the one via which you administer your semi-dedicated server. You will find all your domain names in the Registered Domains section and those whose extensions support the registrar lock option will have a padlock icon next to them. You can unlock any domain name by clicking on its icon and since the change will propagate momentarily, you will be able to continue with the transfer process without the need to wait for the lock status to be changed on WHOIS sites. If you change your mind and decide not to transfer the domain away from our company, locking it again will be just as easy and will not take more than several mouse clicks in your Hepsia hosting Control Panel.
